Yoli is a multilevel marketing company that focuses on health supplement packages designed to help with “life transformation.”
Instead of offering sparse individual products, Yoli’s goal is to sell complete kits that improve your physical and emotional health.
So did I get on board? This explains everything:
All good? Let’s continue…
The company is particularly known for its Better Body System and their 30 Day Transformation Kit, a product and lifestyle choice package that is supposed to jump-start your health and help you lose weight. Indeed, it even brands itself as “the better body company.”
The company was founded in 2009, and has stayed focused on its core mission of self-transformation packages. It boasts an impressive website and slick, professional product design, though it has not experienced tremendous growth.
When you look at search engine traffic, you can see that the company experienced some steady initial growth after its founding, and experienced a sharp rise in popularity in early 2015. After this initial burst, however, the company failed to translate this burst of interest into a sustained familiarity with the brand.
Products
Yoli’s product offerings all play roles in their self-transformation packages. The 30 Day Transformation Kit includes Alkalete, YES, Pure, and Passion: four of the core supplements in Yoli’s catalog.
Alakalete is a supplement that is supposed to balance your body’s pH levels. According to company literature, the average person’s diet is heavy in acidic foods, which promotes lower pH levels in your blood and is associated with poor health.
There’s been significant pushback from the scientific community on this topic, with biologists and doctors noting that the human body very tightly regulates its acidity levels, and that even minor changes in this cause medical emergencies.
On the other hand, a scientific review article published by Gerry Schwalfenberg at the University of Alberta in Canada argues that there is evidence that a diet designed to lower alkalinity could have beneficial effects for people with chronic diseases (even if the actual blood pH does not go down).
For its part, Alkalete contains minerals known to neutralize acids: calcium carbonate, potassium hydroxide, and magnesium hydroxide, among others.
One problem: all of these are powerful alkaline substances, and the thing they’re most likely to neutralize is your stomach acid. This could cause indigestion or other stomach issues.
YES (short for Yoli Essential Shake) is a classic meal replacement shake. It includes a hefty serving of whey protein, as well as a fruit and vegetable extract mixture designed to boost your immune system.
Both of these stand up to scientific scrutiny: research has found that whey protein can actually promote muscle maintenance and boost fat loss during a weight loss program, while fruit and vegetable concentrates are known to boost immunity.
Pure is a high-powered probiotic supplement. It contains only one kind of bacteria (bacillus coagulans) but it’s in a very high dose: 600 million colony forming units, which is far higher than many other probiotic supplements on the market. Bacillus coagulans is one of the more promising probiotic bacteria available currently; it’s already been demonstrated to significantly reduce bloating and abdominal pain among patients with irritable bowel syndrome.
A 2009 study by Larysa Hun demonstrated that a probiotic supplement containing this bacteria both reduced gastrointestinal symptoms and had no adverse effects in a clinical trial. Among Yoli’s offerings, this is perhaps the one with the most scientific support.
Passion is Yoli’s take on the non-caloric energy drink. It contains only ten calories per serving, and is flavored with fruit extracts. It gives you an energy boost thanks to its green tea extract and its yerba mate extract.
Both are known to act as stimulants, and green tea extract is one of the best-researched fat burning supplements. According to a scientific review article by Carmen Cabrera, Reyes Artacho, and Rafael Giménez, green tea has thermogenic effects: this means it boosts your body’s natural fat burning capabilities and increases your metabolic rate.
Yerba mate, a traditional South American tea, was also found to have anti-obesity effects in mice, as reported in a 2012 study in the journal Laboratory Animal Research.
Compensation plan
Overall, the products look pretty solid, but what about the business opportunity? As with many MLMs, to join you must purchase a startup kit. The cheapest of these is $70, which includes membership and a few product samples. Several of the other kits range from $100 to over $1,000.
From here, you need to move 50 product volume per month, either personally or through your customers, to remain active and eligible for bonuses and commissions. This equates to about $70 per month in actual dollar sales. Given that the 30 Day Transformation Kit is $280, this is pretty easy.
The compensation structure is binary, which means you need two strong independent sales teams to be your left and right legs. As with other MLMs, it’s the performance of the weaker leg that determines your ranking and, therefore, your earnings.
Recap
The products for Yoli are, on the whole, pretty solid, and the compensation structure is okay–the commission rates could be higher, and it appears tricky to maintain a high sales volume after your initial wave of customers has finished their 30 day transformation process.
The company, of course, encourages you to keep using their products even after completing the month long challenge, but it’s a tough sell to enroll someone at $280 per month indefinitely. More likely, many of your customers will exit or at least substantially lower their monthly purchases after finishing the initial program.
To succeed as a Yoli distributor, you’ll have to take this into account, or keep a steady stream of new customers flowing in. If there’s a silver lining, it’s that this company has not yet made it big, so there could be untapped market opportunities lying in wait.
But if you’re simply doing it for the money, there are better ways to kill your day job.
